WhatsApp is a popular messaging platform that lets users have text conversations, audio calls, video calls, photo sharing, file sharing, and location sharing. The platform keeps adding features to make messaging experience even better. In the latest update, the company has added a locked chat feature. Recently, it also allowed users to use the same WhatsApp account on up to 4 devices. In this detailed article, I will explain how to lock chats in WhatsApp and how to access locked WhatsApp chats.
WhatsApp has now added an option to lock any chat or group chat using a fingerprint. For now, the feature is available for Android, but it will soon support Face ID in iOS. The steps to lock chats will be the same for Android and iOS. If you want to protect individual cats, you can lock them.
All the chats that you will lock will be managed inside a different folder called Locked Chats. You will have to verify your fingerprint to access the folder and chats inside it.
It is worth mentioning that locking a chat on the primary phone won’t lock it on connected devices. It is because fingerprint or Face ID data is saved locally on the phone.
Steps to lock chats in WhatsApp
To lock a chat, open the WhatsApp chat and tap on the name at the top. Then scroll down until you find Chat Lock. Tap on it and then enable the toggle that says “Lock this chat with fingerprint”.
It will then notify you that this chat is now locked.
By following the same steps, you can unlock a chat if you no longer want to keep the chat locked.
Now you know how to lock and hide a chat in WhatsApp. At the time of writing this article, the feature is only available in the beta. There is no information on when the feature will be added to the stable version. In the coming weeks, the feature will be added to the stable version of the WhatsApp app for Android and iOS.
