You can read chats, respond to them, and more on WhatsApp for web. But there’s one privacy issue. If you don’t logout and only close the tab, it remains logged in. Anyone having access to your laptop can open web.whatsapp.com to access your WhatsApp account. But there’s a way to prevent this. WhatsApp lets users add a screen lock to prevent unauthorized access to WhatsApp for web. If you enable this, it asks for a screen lock password each time you want to access WhatsApp for web. In this way, it prevents others from accessing your account. In this article, I will explain how you can add a screen lock on WhatsApp for web.
Screen lock on WhatsApp for Web
Follow these steps to add a screen lock on WhatsApp for web.
Click three vertical dots menu above your chats list and click Settings.
In the new screen, Click Privacy.
Here, look for Screen lock and click on it.
Select the checkbox in front of Screen lock.
It will ask you to set device password. Enter a strong password of your choice.
It is worth mentioning that the password must be between 6-128 characters. It may only contain letters, numbers, and common punctuation. For better security, you should use a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters. It will make the password strong and hard to guess.
Click OK.
It will add a Screen Lock on WhatsApp for web. WhatsApp for web also lets you select the length of time WhatsApp can be on standby mode before a screen lock is required. The default time is 15 minutes, but you can also change it from the available options.
After adding a Screen lock Password, WhatsApp for web will ask for the Screen lock password each time you open WhatsApp for web in a tab.
Whenever you are leaving your laptop, you don’t need to close the WhatsApp for web tab.
You can follow the same steps to disable the Screen lock if you want.
You can also lock your screen by clicking three vertical dots menu and click Click Lock screen. It will go to the Lock Screen of WhatsApp for web. It is similar to how you lock your system while leaving the desk.
