On Instagram, you get message requests from people who you don’t follow. Girls usually face this issue and receive a lot of message requests from stalkers and spammers. If you are not interested in receiving DMs from people you don’t follow, you can disable message requests. After this, you won’t receive any DM requests from unknown people.
One gets Message requests only if the profile is public. Any Instagram user can send a Direct Message to any other Instagram user with a public profile. Instagram also keeps messages from unknown people in a separate folder called “Message Requests”. You will have to occasionally check this folder and it becomes a pain for many people.
If you want complete privacy even after having a public profile, you should turn off message requests. In this article, I will tell you how to turn off message requests on Instagram.
Turn Off Message Requests on Instagram
Open your Instagram profile and tap on the Hamburger icon at the top right side. Tap Settings and then select Privacy.
Now Select Messages and find Others on Instagram and tap on it. Set it to “Don’t receive requests.”
Now you won’t receive Message requests from unknown people.
Turning on message requests on Instagram is easy and straightforward. Just follow the steps I added above and it will be done. This will prevent unknown people from messaging you on Instagram. Those people can still comment on your posts because you have a public profile.
