If you have duplicate photos on your iPhone, it will take unnecessary storage space. Removing duplicate photos will free up some space. Now you also do not need a third-party app for finding duplicate photos. The latest version of iOS comes with a native feature of finding duplicate photos. Then it also gives you an option to merge duplicate photos and keep the best quality image from duplicate images.
Open the Photos app on your iPhone and go to the Albums tab. On the Albums screen, swipe to the bottom and tap Duplicates. It will show you all the duplicate photos to review. You will also get an option to Merge duplicate photos quickly. You can choose to select one by one or merge app photos in one go.
When you merge duplicate photos, it will keep the photo of the best quality and delete other photos.
“Merging combines relevant data like captions, keywords, and favorites into one photo with the highest quality. Albums that contain merged duplicates are updated with the merged photo,” says Apple.
You will still be able to access deleted duplicate photos from the Recently Deleted folder in the Photos app.
Deleting duplicate photos is now really easy on iPhone. So, you can easily free some space on your phone. The feature is now added to iOS 16. If you do not see the duplicate album on your iPhone, you need to update it to iOS 16. The stable version of iOS 16 will be released in September soon after the release of the new iPhone.
