How to disable Chrome Incognito Mode

Like other browsers, Chrome also offers a private mode called ‘Incognito Mode’ to access the internet in a private manner. Google Chrome won’t record history or downloads if you are using Incognito mode. This is a good way of accessing those sites that you don’t want to list in your browsing history. So, you won’t have to manually remove Chrome history.

Incognito Mode is just a private mode that doesn’t record your browsing and download activity. Websites and ISPs can still identify you and know who you are.

Incognito mode is useful, but you can disable it if you do not want to use it. In this article, I will tell you how to disable Chrome Incognito Mode.

Disable Chrome Incognito Mode on Windows

In Windows, you need to modify the registry entry to disable Chrome’s incognito mode. Follow these steps

Open the Run box by holding pressing Windows Key and R at the same time. In the Run box, enter regedit and press enter.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Policies > Google > Chrome.

If this entry isn’t available, create the Google and Chrome folders inside the Policies

Now Right-click Chrome and select New > DWORD 32-bit value. Use Value name IncognitoModeAvailability. Now Double-click on IncognitoModeAvailability and set the value data to 1.

Now you will have to restart the computer to apply these changes. After the restart, you won’t see Incognito Mode in Google Chrome.

If you have the Mac system follow these steps.

Open Terminal and type the following

defaults write IncognitoModeAvailability -integer 1

Then restart your Mac to apply changes. After the restart, you won’t see the Incognito option in Chrome.
